Playoffs in September

The playoffs do not start officially until Wednesday afternoon, but I think we can all say that today the drama began. There is nothing better than a playoff to make a playoff that gets you into the playoffs. You still with me? Ok, ok let me break it down. With the Twinkies up a 1/2 game in the AL Central at the end of the season, the ChiSox still had a make up game against the Tigers that could potentially pull them even. In the event that they won, they would play another playoff against those same Twinkies to see who gets into the playoffs. Whew!

alexi.jpgIn a rainy day in Chitown, the drama began in the form of rain which caused a delay that lasted hours. When the night was over baseball fans all over the world (except for those in the Twin Cities) got up and cheered that we will see yet another playoff atmosphere type game that will decide the final participant for the Fall Classic. The White Sox, with a huge lift from Ramirez, tore apart the Tigers and sent them home making vacation arrangements.

So now we have the Twins on their way to Chicago (as I write) to play another playoff game for a chance to play at least three more. The winner travel to Tampa, and the loser will join the Tigers and the rest of the league…at home. With both teams struggling going into tomorrow, I’d have to give the edge to Chicago based soley on momentum of tonight’s game.

For baseball fans all over the world, this is what it is all about. Another ”tease” to prepare us for October. It is still warm where I am, so this only brings the cold a bit closer. I can’t wait.

David: A Goliath

david.jpgDavid Ortiz’s recent power has plunged us into the playoffs once again tonight. With an early season wrist injury which accounted for a plethora of absences, Papi has turned it around when it has counted most. In the last 7 games Papi has come alive with 5 homeruns and 11 RBIs. In an post game interview, Papi stated that he felt that his wrist is really coming around. In was showed by an opposite field homerun in Toronto this past weekend.

I, personally, think David is in top form for the playoffs. Our lineup is dangerous with potential for power and speed from one to nine. With David feeling confident, the Redsox should feel more than ok without last season’s World Series MVP and out early season power man (Lowell and Drew). If they should come back into the lineup, even better.

The BoSox are prepared for anyone they have to face this October. Much the Rockies of ’07, I think that the Halos are a bit lax and are in need of an awakening. Watch AL! The Redsox are back in the mix and still hungry for the AL East, but don’t mind coming into this whole thing as the dark horse. With all the attention pouring on the Angels, Rays (both having miraculous season), and the race for the AL Central between the ChiSox and the Twinkies things are catching steam in Beantown… This year we play both parts–A David and A Goliath… Literally.
